Cognitive research in computer area?

There is an argument that emotions are necessary for thought and as computer cannot have emotions, therefore it is difficult to build a computer that thinks. But on the other hand, with the advent of new technology especially quantum computers, scientists believe that cognitive research will boost up and they will be able to develop ways for computers to learn emotions. Do you think machines with emotions will be beneficial for humans or it will be destructive? Support your answer with explanation of at least one of its application area
